Knife Party’s last EP was definitely one of the best releases in the Dubstep world this past year. Their track “Internet Friends” crossed over from just being a hit amongst Dubstep fans to being played by big name DJ’s in every EDM sub genre. Based on the huge success of their last EP their follow up had very big shoes to fill. I honestly didn’t think their next EP could top “100% No Modern Talking” but their latest release “Rage Valley EP” definitely tops it. They showcase a deeper Dubstep sound on these tracks, which i’m very fond of. Each track sounds different and each incorporate different elements. The track “Rage Valley” is the closest to the sound they had on their previous EP. They throw in a drum break down at certain points of the track and then incorporate different snare sounds to maintain the drum feel, which gives it a nice touch. Another track on the EP is “Centipede”, which most people heard them play in their Ultra set. Without knowing I actually heard this track for the first time this weekend at EDC NYC. Nero played this towards the end of their set and once I heard the intro I thought to myself “Where did they find this??”. Knife Party is known to experiment with different concepts and vocals on their tracks, and the track “Centipede” pretty much falls in to that category. The track starts off like the beginning of a documentary you’d see on National Geographic, with a voice talking about centipedes and how centipedes attack tarantula’s. It’s definitely random but the drop on this track is sick and the deepest track on the EP sound wise. If you’re a Dubstep fan, give this EP a listen, you wont be disappointed.
Knife Party- Rage Valley
Knife Party- Centipede
Knife Party- Bonfire
Knife Party ft. MistaJam- Sleaze

How many times can you say “definitely” in one post?
there’s no need for a comment like this. If you want to leave a comment, make it of value. Also, another rule of thumb with comments: don’t say anything you wouldn’t say if you were face to face with them. Thanks.
I don’t think 3 times constitutes over-usage.
4 is definitely where it crosses the boundary.
4 is definitely a problem
Hey Presh, just to let you know. Centipede is not totally random. :) As centipede’s attack tarantula’s….
Remember the Pendulum track?

Knife Party is a new project by the guys from Pendulum. :)

Ah i didn’t know Pendulum had a track called Tarantula. I knew Knife Party was a product of the guys from Pendulum, but I was never really a big fan of Pendulum. But the Centipede track makes sense now lol
Centipede is by far the worst song on this EP, there was no need to focus half the review on it
*sigh* This is a great EP don’t get me wrong 100% No Modern Talk was hard to top. This one IMO fell a bit short but still delivers the intensity of the Knife Party sound. But your review is flawed, although these tracks have a certain dubstep tempo, along with some dubstep breaks its hardly dubstep. Knife Party like Skrillex will always be in that debate of whether they are “Dubstep” or “Electro” thats the unique thing about both. The beauty of EDM is that you can transcend both genres and really create a unique one, and thats what Knife Party has been able to do, this is not a “dubstep” EP as it is more of an electrostep hybrid with a moombatah track at the end. These guys are very talented artists but just categorizing them as dubstep I feel is a bit insulting. Listen to some real dubstep instead of the aggressive new hybrid of dubstep that has been so prominent within the last two years.
I feel like when it comes to EDM in general it’s all perspective and matter of opinion. Even when DJ’s make a track and they label it one genre they have 50 comments from fans saying it’s not really that genre for whatever reason. I do agree with you about Skrillex though, I do think he has his own sound and I don’t categorize him as anything because of that but I personally don’t classify Knife Party as a Skrillex. For me real dubstep is like doctop p, flux, skream and benga. However, I don’t think it’s really fair to compare every dubstep labeled track to them, same goes for any other EDM sub genre. There’s so many fans of old school house DJ’s like Carl Cox and Junior Vasquez that criticize Swedish House Mafia for not being “real” house music.
Haha this is why I love EDM, I totally agree with the opinions of others and how everyone does have their own sense of what a track is. When I was comparing Skrillex and Knife Party I was just simply saying that you can’t really categorize them as anything. You could make an argument that Knife Party does dabble more with dubstep but again opinions are opinions and I feel that they both represent a different form of essentially a new genre or sub genre as you call it. Personally for me the the dubstep that I’m more fond of is Caspa, Skream and Benga (obvious), Rusko had his moments with previous releases and you can’t forget Sub Focus who ill admit is a bit more DNB then dubstep but at coachella he was dropping some nasty old school dubstep. I’m just saying that this new aggressive form of dubstep can’t really be categorized anymore, and again to my opening statement its why the EDM scene is so ever evolving. As far as “house” goes obviously the OGs like Carl Cox, Moby, Laidback all those guys have made a name for themselves but when it comes to SWHM they are just trying to find their own sound, i personally still consider them house (lol not because of the name) but because of the way that they have been able to adapt their sound to the changing house scene. All in all its an opinionated argument but always fun to talk to people about this kind of stuff. nothing wrong with a friendly argument :) oh and lets not forget fedde le grand :)
Exactly! EDM isn’t clearly defined as other music genres so it’s just a bundle of opinions lol I was going to put Rusko up there too but I agree that he’s had his moments with previous releases. I honestly wasn’t a fan of his last album or whatever that was at all mainly cause it didn’t sound like him or what his old sound was. Also I agree with SHM, I’m definitely not one of the old school house fans who hate everything new lol I feel like there’s this whole new house sound thats evolved today with SHM and other newcomers that’s amazing and different in it’s own way. Side note Fedde KILLLED it at EDC NYC, i’m so mad that there’s no torrent of it. I feel like he deserves more recognition than he gets.
I so didn’t notice that on their FB btw, but i could totally see that being plausible lol
OH I saw Fedde at Ultra in 2011…. totally fuckin destroyed it. I agree he is underrated he’s had good releases he deff deserves more recognition. Personally I’m a fan of more electro house then anything. so its exciting to see the new up in comers like Minero, Porter, Lazy RIch Mord Fustang, Vodge Diper, Zedd and Zeds Dead in the dubstep category. But I highly highly recommend checking out Minero, he’s going places his production skills are out of this world he’s really underrated and watch out for TheFatRat he’s got mad skills to. Ah i always love a good discussion, and if you guys need any writers for your electro category I’m your guy :P can’t blame me for trying :)
I’ve been waiting for Mord Fustang to finally blow up! I saw him last year and he was amazing and i’m a fan of lazy rich too. I’ll definitely check out Minero and FatRat cause i’ve never heard of them. If you’re interested in writing send an email or message remix-nation on fb since i’m not the person who makes those decisions lol
oh just another fun fact if you go to Knife Party’s FB their description of their music is “seizure music” hahahaha
Haha glad I could show you some new artists. But yea totally check out Minero – Bi-Polar and his remix of Can’t Let You Go one of my faves. I know everyones so over Avicii- levels but TheFatRat has a good remix of it its worth a listen :)
From what i hear skrillex’s genre is Complextro..don’t know if u have ever heard of it?
Skrillex, Zedd, Lazy Rich all those artists do some “complextro” its pretty much super detailed electro house. Super glitchy, chopped up a bunch… lol it literally just sounds complex hahaha personally one of my fav types of genres
hey Presh (precious) ;) :
thanks a lot :D keep it up & rising :D
I hope you realize that only one of the tracks on their first EP was dubstep. Internet friends is so obviously electro house, or “seizure music” as they put it. Learn your genres before writing reviews my friend, enjoyed reading it though :)
Yeah totally with you on this. I can’t stand pure “wub wub wub” dubstep, Knife Party’s sound is so much more heavily electro. Electrostep, I believe it may be called…
100% Modern Talk was totally an electro EP, pretty sure Antidote or FIre Hive (forgot which one) was the only dubstep track on their if you wanna call that dubstep. And they were mocking other artist with the EP title who overuse the “Modern Talk” synth which is pretty much that muddled “YEYEYEYEYEYE” sound lololol haha
