After listening to his sister’s cassette tapes of American funk, jazz, soul and blues at the ripe age of 3, Slovenian artist Denis Jasarevic quickly developed a keen affection for the musical diversity of the past. Recognized universally as Gramatik, he left his hometown of Portoroz to come to the U.S to do what he does best: create incredible sounding soul-inspired groove music. He’s received immense popularity ever since his arrival, dropping his first album on Pretty Lights Music in 2008 while building quite the reputation with over 100,000 tracks sold on Beatport.
In his newest release, Gramatik takes the soulful vocals of The Beatles and infuses it with his futuristic funk sound. It’s obvious how he landed where he is today, and with his recent uprising, we plan to see Mr. Jasarevic much more in the future. Stream the track here:
His most recent E.P. #digitalfreedom was released 4 months ago, touching base on the importance of sharing free music and rejecting internet censorship:
“My new EP bares the title #digitalfreedom. As an artist that based his entire career on the platform of free file sharing, I’m dedicating it to the fight against severe internet censorship bills we’ve been hearing about so much in the past months. Bastards have been trying to cripple the internet on a global scale with bills like ACTA/SOPA/PIPA and I’m sure there’s more of them coming, so this one goes out for spreading awareness! Reject them all, they will never stop the sharing, the Internet is our realm, DIGITAL FREEDOM!” -Gramatik
