Axwell’s Cosmic Opera, New york City

Thursday night I had the pleasure of attending NYC’s Cosmic Opera, a 6 hour electronic music event in NYC with the DJ lineup of Axwell, Deniz Koyu, and NO-ID. For those of you unfamiliar with Cosmic Opera, it is a 3 part music event in NYC with the goal of creating an epic EDM experience similar to the experience of attending an opera. I got there just in time to hear Deniz Koyu’s set and he definitely did not disappoint.

Koyu played an original set of mostly his own tracks and was able to keep the crowed going for 2 hours. A highlight of Koyu’s set was of course Tung and when he dropped his brand new remix of FLG’s “So Much Love.” Following Koyus set was a 10 minute break, where an opera singer flew through the room singing, leading up to the drop of the curtains and Axwell’s set.

Axwell opened up with an intro version to his new huge release on Axtone “In My Mind” which sent the crowed into a frenzy. His second track of the night was Swedish House Mafia’s brand new single “Greyhound” which sounded phenomenal live.

Axwell gave an unbelievable 2 and a half hour performance that kept the crowed on it’s toes the whole entire time. Other highlights of his set included Dubvision’s new single “All By Myself” which is out on Spinnin Records February 27th, Arty & Matisse & Sadko’s Trio, Nari & Milani’s Atom, and a mashup of the Funkerman and Third Party remix to RHCP’s “Otherside.” All in all Cosmic Opera was a huge success and I would not be surprised if the Cosmic Opera brand expanded nationwide. Cosmic Opera is back in NYC in April, lineup and ticket information will be announced shortly.
